After the royal f@#$ up with masking, this kit turned out to be a comedy of errors of epic proportions.

Gundam HG 1/144 Psycho Gundam

As mentioned in the previous post, attempting to mask stripped off my base layer of black, which meant uneven patterns on the body. I tried to sand away (1000 grit) the remaining paint which resulted in a very uneven surface on the torso, shoulder pads and shins. To make things worse, when applying titanium enamel as a wash, the wash was too thick, and spread around the shoulder pads, giving it a titanium finish over an uneven area! The decal application turned out quite bad in the end, with the edges of the decals showing up rather obviously, namely on the front red chest piece.

The few things that made me happy was painting the lenses in acrylic pink, over enamel silver, as well as painting the enamel silver bits on the nozzles and head. Didn't turn out as even as I'd wanted it though. Finally, the change from the original white colour to silver made the kit look better, IMHO.

    Reminds me of Voltes V seeing these photos of your Psycho gundam.
    At 1/144 scale that Psycho is huge! Your doing well with your kits, that RX-78 is a beauty!
    by the way did you use Settling solution for your decals? i think this what they use to avoid that decal edges appearing.

    hi Al, Psycho's one of my fave Gundams, so I'm happy to finally complete it. Pity about the yellow bits in the end.

    Yes, I'm using Mr Mark Setter actually.

    looks pretty darn good mate, you shouldn't fret too much about the mistakes.....

    been trying to complete my trooper armor and some of the grey paint smudged past the teeth of the helmet, in due process of removal i used diluted thinner which still ate through some of the gloss of the ABS plastic...still pondering how to fix that myself....

    anyway, awesome pictures as always bro! do hope you'd get back to 1/6th collecting once your expenses for toys INCREASE!!!

    @Joshua: Thanks for the encouragement. I have zero experience with your ST armour, but was wondering if modelling thinner (e.g., Mr Hobby/Tamiya) would help for paint removal.

    Oh don't be mistaken Joshua, I still am collecting 1:6 figs, just haven't had the time to take photos yet.

    @des: RX-78 is an icon.

    @chubbybots: Hi chubbybots, thanks for visiting. You have a cool gundam collection too. Will be building at least two PGs before my 'retirement' from the hobby. :)
