Prior to deciding that I would have a go at masking, I tried hand painting the yellow on to the body.

The finish was very uneven, so I stripped off that layer of paint and decided to try to mask. After masking the already sprayed black parts, I sprayed a coat of white as a base, as yellow does not turn up well on black. After a day, I sprayed yellow. I then waited another day to spray a top coat.

Upon tearing off the masking tape, it ripped off my previous layer of black.

I then tried removing masking tape with lighter fluid, but still the paint came off. Guess that is a limitation of using Anchor Paints on an unprimed surface.

In conclusion, the attempt at masking was a royal f@#$ up, and the only consolation I have is that at least I tried and learnt something.

was the yellow part not a separate part? could have been painted first before attachment(?)
Tamiya has a special kind of tape for masking purposes, it does'nt lift or damage the paint covered.
Main reasong i prefer the MG and PG kits - no need for masking coz all parts separate accordingly.

nope, it's a HG kit, so it was casted together with the black.

I'm using Tamiya masking tape actually. The problem could lie with my paint not being entirely cured.

I share your sentiments about the preference of PGs & MGs, over HGs, but pity some kits only come in HG, like this one.
