Michael Jackson - 'Thriller' 12-inch Figure

1:6 Hot Toys Michael Jackson (Thriller Version)

I'm not fan of the deceased King of Pop, as evidenced in this review in terms of copy and photos, but I had good fun taking photos of this figure.

MJ fans have been knocking the likeness of the figure, commenting on the eyes being too small, facial features like his nose(heh) being off, and some even claim his features are too asian.

I don't spend all day looking at pix of MJ (my time is spent on the Beatles) so frankly, I don't give a flying f@#$. His head sculpt is tolerable for me and again, it's another decent sculpt and excellent texturing and paint application, as per Hot Toys' usual standards.

MJ is using Hot Toys Slim body in a dark skin tone.

Regrettably, it is not the exact tone as the Hot Toys Slim African American body (which is darker), meaning using the body to put together zombie MJ will result in the skin tones for his face and hands differing from his forearms and neck.

Here he is, with all his extra hands, figure stand, and zombie incarnation using the Hot Toys Slim African American body.

The variety of hands is excellent, as it allows MJ a wide range of poses, such as waving to his fans...

...snapping his fingers to the beat...

...pointing the way to the plastic surgeon...

...and fisting threatening to beat up unruly paparazzi.

I prefer zombie Michael to vanilla Michael, cos he looks more interesting.

Hot Toys MJ turned out to be way more fun than I expected. Pedantic MJ fans who can't get over the accuracy of the sculpt should walk on and hope and look for something better. For me, this figure is a very fitting tribute to the late King of Pop, who was and is, a musical icon of our time.

It's really fun to play with these figures. I haven't got the time to take photos on these figures yet. Got a lot of gatherings this week as well :)

    an astute observation, Arthur.

  1. i'm kinda hurt with you ragging on michael like that but i must admit you had me cracking up with your comments! "pointing towards the plastic surgeons" i do dig mike and i wish they would had done a better job because i know they can, they should offer the original head sculpt they first shown. seeing your photos makes me have second thoughts about getting him but i already pre-ordered! J

hey Jason, no harm intended. As I said, he is a musical icon, no doubt, but what he got up to in his later years was quite dodgy for me. It's just too many other African American singers precede him in terms of my music taste, e.g., Louis Armstrong, Marvin Gaye and Barry White.

And I really do like this toy, head sculpt issues aside.
