Bandai SIC Movie Realization Batman & Bat-Pod Review

My first and only SIC figure was Spiderman and since I found it quite fun, picking up their rendition of Batman was an easy decision.

I'd also held off picking up Mattel's The Dark Knight products, wanting to stick to one scale as much as possible.

More pix of the package are in this post.

I didn't expect it to come in such a big box, and generally it utilises too much space. For an idea of how much, here's the box with Hot Toys Batman (Original Costume).

Enough of the box and how it makes quite a nice discussion piece and on to the figure proper.

Here's a few things I'd like to point out.

The scalloped blades come are flushed into crevices on the gauntlets when he's riding the Bat-Pod.

When it's time for some ass-whupping, the blades can be raised to deliver a painful beating.

He's got double-jointed arms and knees, which I suspect are a mainstay in SIC figures. This allows for extreme poses and is also necessary as he needs to contort his body a bit to fit the Bat-Pod.

There's quite a great amount of detail on his suit, and some may find it over-stylised. I've no idea why his tits are red though.

These are the extra hands and accessories that come with the figure, which are sufficient to get the job done. I find the batarang rather over-sized though. Neither the batarang or grappling gun attaches to his utility belt.

I've read some people's complaints on the toy forums about his neck armour being out-of-place/over-stylised/fugly.

The head pops right off the ball-jointed neck and allows the armour to be removed, though it's your call whether it improves the figure's look or not.

Next, the Bat-Pod.

I initially thought the Bat-Pod added way too much to the price. Upon removing it from the plastic tray, I realised why. The vehicle contains quite a fair bit of die cast metal which adds to the weight. Overall, it's nicely crafted. I'm no authority on the Bat-Pod, so I'll leave the hardcore fans to point out all the problems with the sculpt, based on the following pix.

If SIC's style isn't an issue for you, I'd say go for this figure. It's quite a well-done toy, looks really cool, and it's a great piece of memorabillia from The Dark Knight for your toy shelf.

Nice pics and thanks for the review!

  1. neoconvoy says:

    are the wheels rubber ?

  1. If you were asked to choose, would you go for this or Mattel Movie Master Batman?

  1. neoconvoy says:

definitely this one, if you fancy articulation and stylized figures...but if you want movie accurate with decent articulation, then Mattel..

  1. Ted - It would be movie accurate figures for me.
Don't you think his red tits remind you of headlights?..:P

  1. Shaun says:

    you're welcome, Des.

TED, wheels feel like a very hard rubber.

I'd still go for this, as I don't mind alternative interpretations in this scale.

Adrian, you're right about the headlights, they're prob there cos the Bat-Pod doesn't have any.

  1. wuming says:

The neck is really fugly, it makes batman looks like he got a long neck too. I like the bike though. Think I still stick to my orders for Batman Dark Knight from Hottoys.

  1. Armand says:

Hey Shaun, is the cape like solid rubber/plastic? If so does it mean you can't pose the cape?

  1. Shaun says:

wuming, thanks for dropping by. :)

armand, the cape is solid plastic.

  1. Now wait a minute. In some promo shots, I saw bottom of the cape flowing upwardds while on the batpod, and while standing the bottom of the cape was flowing inwards. so it has to be soft plastic at least somewhat flexible

  1. Shaun says:

thanks for the note redeemer61190, I will try it when I get back and make the necessary correction to the post.

  1. Shaun says:

redeemer61190 i just checked, the cape on mine doesn't bend.

  1. Hmm...do you have the movie masters? I mean that cape was pretty bad but it was able to bend. It also was pretty heavy.

    Is this cape heavy?

great review BTW. Depending on how many figures youve written reviews for, you could put in a scale/ranking system.

  1. Shaun says:

I don't have the movie masters figures and the cape on SIC Bats isn't heavy.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't really have that reviews to warrant a ranking system. :)

  1. Michael says:

First off, thanks for the review. I was just wondering however, how much of the Bat-pod is die-cast? Minus the tires which you said was a "hard" rubber, what percentage would you give for the amount of die-cast metal? Thanks again.

  1. Shaun says:

hi Michael, back to the 'hard rubber' comment about the wheels, I think I was wrong. Been playing with it a bit more and think they're plastic after all. Tried to scratch the wheels to confirm my conclusion. Sorry to TED as well, who was intending to buy it anyway.

The die cast occurs mainly in the engine area of the Bat-Pod, which probably accounts for about 15% of the overall material at least. Hope the info helps.

This is a thing of beauty. It's going on my wantlist for someday in the future when I have money.

  1. Shaun says:

hope you do manage to score it ryanlb, and thanks for dropping by.

    Hi, nice review!
Have you been able to turn the figure at the waist? Mine came to me with the abdomen turned slightly to the right and stuck that way. I suppose it wouldn't matter when the figure is on the bike but I wanted to compare notes about the toy with other owners. I just can't imagine a figure this big not having a waist joint...

  1. Shaun says:

hi stasiu, the waist on mine's quite tight too, been unable to get it to move. Strange cos the prev SIC fig I had did have a waist joint.

I love your site! Because of your in depth review of the Bandai Movie Realization Batman, I ordered one. It was worth every penny. I wish Batman had looked this good in the recent movie. Bandai has taken the toy making craft to a whole new level of cool! Thanks for all the time you put in to creating this great website! I check back often to see any new reviews by the way, so keep up the great work. Gotta go pose my Batman and Batpod now, so peace-out!

  1. Shaun says:

@anonymous: good to know you score this toy and are having great fun with it. :) Thanks for checking out my site regularly. It's cool when fellow collectors like yourself enjoy what I'm doing here.

    Thanks for your nice review!
I too have one this for myself but I wonder whether you could help me out to fix my toys.

On the batman tits part, I mistakenly made a scratch and it become whiter whicj is different from other part so I wonder how can I fix this problem?
Should I use any painting to fix it? if so what kinds of paints should I use?

I would be appreciate if you could help in this regard

    Tks a LOT!

  1. Gerald says:

Nice review, just to add to the 'red tits'... This version of TDK is based partial by the movie, mainly on Japanese artist's Takeya's rendition of TDK hence the different Batman costume & also Batpod. I have both this as well as the HT versions. I actually liked the SIC Batpod designs better. :)
